    Express It In Yiddish:
intimate knowledge of something, knowing it inside out, backwards and forwards, through and through, well versed in, by heart, up in a subject, have it at his fingertips, like the palm of the hand, etc

בקי ורגיל, יודע על בוריו, מכיר לפני ולפנים, בעל פה, כמו את כף היד, יודע פרק ב.., שוחה בחומר וכו'

ער קען פון אויסנווייניק ווי אַ ייד אין אשרי

er ken fun oysnveynik vi a yid in ashrey

he knows it by heart like a Jew in the prayer of Ashrey
    (recited 3 times a day)

הוא מכיר בעל פה כמו יהודי ב'אשרי

Yiddish is rich with expressions. In fact, sometimes the same phrase can be said in a number of different ways. I try to bring the unique ones, where it is is not obvious from the literal translation what the expression means.
