    מת מרעב, בטן מקרקרת, רעב כמו כלב, משתוקק לאכול, מאוד רעב, בולמוס


    הונגעריק ווי אַ וואָלף
    hungerik vi a volf
    hungry like a wolf
    רעב כמו זאב

    דאָס האַרץ חלש'ט
    dos harts khalisht
    the heart is fainting
    הלב מעולף

    דערכאַפּן דאָס האַרץ
    derkhapn dos harts
    to gratify the heart

    להשביע את הלב

    Yiddish is rich with expressions. In fact, sometimes the same phrase can be said in a number of different ways. I try to bring the unique ones, where it is is not obvious from the literal translation what the expression means.
